BUILDING
IN THE PLANET

The theories and practices of much contemporary architecture have predominantly viewed society from a human-centered perspective. However, the future of architecture demands a new approach that establishes norms of coexistence from a global standpoint. This requires new knowledge that goes beyond the conventional, encompassing the reorganization of Earth-centric architectural spaces, the use of innovative materials that move beyond customary construction practices, construction methods that consider resource efficiency, and design approaches that account for the entire life cycle of materials. Thus, for the year 2024, KyungHee University’s Department of Architecture has chosen “Future Research LAB: Building in the planet, with the Planet, for the Planet” as the central theme. This will serve as a starting point to select various subtopics, serving as laboratories for experimentation and meaningful discussions about different cities, architectures, cultures, and construction methods. We anticipate these platforms will provide in-depth and meaningful experiments and discussions as a part of architects’ roles in proposing solutions for the future.

지금까지의 현대 건축 이론이 지구를 인간 중심의 지배적인 관점에서 바라보았다면, 미래 건축은 지구적 관점에서 새로운 지식을 통해 새로운 공존의 규범을 만들어 내야 할 것입니다. 이를 위해선 지구 중심의 공간 재편화, 관습적으로 사용하던 재료의 혁신, 자원의 생애주기를 고려한 디자인 방법론 등 우리가 가진 관습적인 지식이 아닌 미래를 위한 새로운 지식들이 필요합니다. 이에 2024년 경희대학교 건축학과는 “미래건축연구실 : 지구에서, 지구와 함께, 지구를 위한 집 – Building in the planet, with the Planet, for the Planet ” 이라는 공통 주제로 출발해 개개인의 세부주제를 선정하였습니다. 이번 주제전을 통해 미래 건축가로서 도시, 건축, 문화의 다양한 구축 방법에 대해 심도 있는 실험과 토론의 장을 마련할 수 있길 기대합니다.
